What time do the doors open?

The doors open one hour prior to the start of the event.

Is there an admissions charge?

There is no admission charge to attend Symposium events. Programs of the days/weekends events are available at a minimal charge.  You can also purchase the premium features in our App!

DanceCompGenie Events can be found in the Google Play Store and the iTunes Store.  Premium Features will allow you to see the schedule in real time, download the program book and vote for the People’s Choice Award!

Are there assigned dressing rooms?

We assign dressing rooms when it is needed in a particular venue.  If you do not see a dressing area for boys and you are in need of one please see Alli backstage.

Are there trophies and awards for sale?

Trophies and lapel pins are available for purchase at the competition in limited quantities.

Do you accept checks?

We do not accept checks at our events. We do accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.

What is the competition entry deadline?

Entries should be completed online 30 days prior to the event but please keep in mind our events are first come, first serve. Cities may sell out prior to the deadline.

Will I be able to take photos or video?

No. Video recording and photography are strictly prohibited. This is first and foremost for the safety of our children.  No one wants strangers taking pictures of their kids.  This rule is also in place to protect the teachers and their choreography. We have a photographer and videographer at most events.

When and where do I turn in my music?

We strongly encourage you to upload your music on the registration site.   This can be done via the “Upload Music” feature on your Dashboard in DanceCompGenie. This is the easiest, most reliable method.  

If for some reason that is not an option, teachers should turn in all of their music for the day to the sound table backstage upon arrival. CD’s should be in order and be clearly labeled with the studio name, the music title, and the routine number. Only one song per CD.   

If you are turning in your IPod please have the Ipod itself labeled with your studio name, AND have the music labeled (song title and routine number) in a playlist titled Symposium.  No other music should be on this playlist. It is also best with iPods if you have 3 seconds of silence at the beginning and end of each song.

Do you accept independent entries?

No, we do not currently accept independent entries. All entries must be made by a dance studio.

What are the levels of competition?

Classic, Select, and Elite.  Descriptions of each level can be found under Rules and Regulations on our website.  

How does your scoring work?

All routines are scored on both an adjudicated system and a placement system.  All routines will receive a medal award (Bronze, Silver, Gold, High Gold and Diamond)  based upon their score.  We award 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places to the highest scoring routines in each category.  

Points Available Per Judge:

Neatness and Appearance – 6

Stage Presence – 10

Overall Impression – 12

Routine – 14

Technique – 18

Three judges give a total available points of 180.  

Diamond — 178.01 – 180

High Gold — 178  –  176

Gold ———- 175.99 – 173

Silver ——— 172.99 – 169

Bronze ——- 168.99 and below
