What time do the doors open?

The doors open one hour prior to the start of the event.

Is there an admission charge?
There is no admission charge to attend Symposium events. Programs of the days/weekends events are available at a minimal charge.

Are there assigned dressing rooms?
We do not assign dressing areas – you are welcome to use any dressing area. If you do not see a dressing area for boys and you are in need of one please see Melissa backstage.

Are there trophies and awards for sale?
Trophies and lapel pins are available for purchase at the competition in limited quantities. All awards are available for purchase from our website and the shipping is free.

Do you accept checks?
We do not accept checks at our events. We do accept cash, Visa, Mastercard and Discover.

What is the competition entry deadline?
Entries should be completed online 30 days prior to the event.

Do you have a rebate program?

Will I be able to take photos or videos?
No. Video recording and photography are strictly prohibited. This is to protect the teachers and their choreography. We have a photographer and videographer at most events.

When and where do I turn in my music?
Teachers should turn in all of their music for the day to the sound table backstage upon arrival. CD’s should be in order and be labeled with the studio name and the music title. If you are turning in your IPod please have it labeled with your studio name and have a playlist titled Symposium.

Do you accept independent entries?
No, we do not currently accept independent entries. All entries must be made by a dance studio.

 

What are the levels of competition?

The Classic level is for dancers who take 5 or fewer hours of class per week and have limited competition experience. The Elite level is for dancers who take more than 5 hours of class per week and attend more competitions. Levels are determined by the instructor/studio director.

 

How do your scoring and awards work?

High Point awards are given to 5th Place for Solos, Duets, Trios, Small Groups, Large Groups, Lines and Productions in the Classic and Elite levels. We also award the highest score per age group for Solos, Duets, Trios, Small Groups, Large Groups, Lines and Productions in the Classic and Elite levels.


A Super Tap Award will be given at the end of each day to the Highest Scoring tap routine of the day in honor of Linda Joseph, Symposium’s founder. We also give Judges Choice Awards, Best Choreography, Best Costume, Best Stage Presence and Best Studio Spirit.

 

Dancers in Solos, Duets or Trios will each receive their own trophy for the medal placement. Dancers in groups will each receive a souvenir ribbon.

All ties will be honored and duplicate awards will be presented.

Trophies and lapel pins are for sale in the registration area.

All routines are scored on both an adjudicated system and a placement system. All routines will receive a medal award based upon their score. We also award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place to the highest scoring routines in each category.
